How We Keep Double Down Tables Fair

Fairness on a double down comes down to two things: the shoe and the rule strip. Live blackjack runs on Evolution studio tables with the shoe on camera, so the single card you draw is visible in the stream as it leaves the shoe. Blackjack carries its own vocabulary, and the double down sits in the middle of it. The terms below are the ones that come up when you ask why a doubled hand settled one way and not another.

What does double down mean in blackjack?

You double your original stake on a two-card hand and receive exactly one more card. After that card the hand stands, whatever total you land on, win or bust.

What is a soft hand?

A hand where an ace counts as eleven, like ace-six, so it can drop without busting. Tables often treat soft doubles differently from hard ones.

What is double after split?

A table rule that lets you double the stake on a hand created by splitting a pair. Not every variant allows it, so read the rule strip before you split.

What is the shoe in blackjack?

The rack that holds the shuffled cards the dealer draws from. In live blackjack it sits on camera, so you can watch the single card your double down pulls.

What is a push?

A tie between your hand and the dealer's, usually on the same total. Your stake returns, including the extra amount you put up to double.

What is a hard hand?

Any hand without an ace, or one where the ace must count as one to avoid busting. Doubling on hard nine, ten or eleven is the usual play.
